My name is Derek Bissitt and I teach U.S. History, U.S. Government and College Psychology. I am also the Auburn Bulldogs Boys Basketball coach. This will be my 23rd year in education and will be my 16th year as a head basketball coach.
I grew up in Holton, Kansas and both of my parents were long-time teachers and coaches in the schools. I received my bachelor’s degree from Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas and my master’s degree from Fort Hays State in Hays, Kansas. My wife Kathy is a nurse at Nemaha County Hospital and we have three children Beau, Brielle & Baron.
My philosophy of education can be summed up very simply, “If you expect greatness, then you can make it happen”. We all may not be the best at everything that we do, but we can be the best version of ourselves in those pursuits that we choose to partake.
My hobbies include; spending time with my family, traveling, reading and attempting the Crossfit workout of the day.
“It’s what you learn after you know it all that counts.” John Wooden
