is a home-visiting program developed to support and encourage a child’s first teacher – the parent. Geared toward families with at-risk children, age birth to three, Sixpence strives to help parents help their children be successful and ready for kindergarten.
The Sixpence Family Educator uses the “Parents as Teachers” curriculum to help families create a safe and stimulating home environment that sparks learning through meaningful interactions. Kayla Yearley meets with parents and children in their home or at the Family Engagement Center three times per month. Parent information and guidance is provided along with fun, educational activities for the child.
Sixpence families come together monthly for a social event held at the Center. The gathering combines food, fellowship and fun with parent education. Information about family services and child development is also made available.
