High School Transition Services for Students with Disabilities
August 12, 2009
Transition Services,
available to high school students, are provided by Resource Teacher
Amy Kroll. As a Certified Transition Specialist, Amy designs and
implements transition plans to help students develop the skills
needed to be successful in today's society. She partners with local
businesses to establish work opportunities and coordinates
activities to help students become more involved in their
community. Amy also collaborates with other school districts to
develop transition workshops for students. As a result, a high
school student's schedule may include, along with traditional
classroom studies, appropriate off-campus job training, employment
and independent living skills instruction, and community
experiences.
Familiar with a number of agencies and their services, the Transition Specialist is the link between families and the supports that are available to them. As a member of the Nebraska Transition Advisory Board/Practitioners Group, Amy stays current with laws and new developments pertaining to transition issues and assists families in understanding and accessing that information. Amy is not only an advocate for students, but also teaches them how to advocate for themselves as she strives to help her students plan and look forward to the future.
