PROGRAMS/COMPLAINTS/MEETINGS
Option Enrollment Program Notice
Option Enrollment application forms for the 2007-2008 school year will be available after September 1, 2006. Forms may be obtained from the Superintendent for District #29 Schools at 820 Central Ave. Ste. #1, Auburn, Nebraska. Applications may be accepted from September 1, 2006 through March 15, 2007 for the 2007-2008 school year.
Adult Education
Southeast Community College and Peru State College have responsibility for continuing education in the community. For details of classes and times in the area, residents are encouraged to contact either of the institutions.
Accredited Ratings
District #29 Schools have the highest accreditation, including accreditation by the State Department of Education and the North Central Association of Secondary Schools since 1910.
School Breakfast and Lunch Program
Parents of students who qualify for free or reduced breakfasts and lunches are urged to complete the necessary paperwork to take part in this very beneficial program. The application is included in the mailing you received from your particular school or is available in any school office or the Superintendent's Office. Even if you do not accept the benefits, we hope you make application. Some federal funding is based on how many students qualify for this benefit, not how many use this benefit. Additional federal funding for our schools is always helpful.
Any family currently receiving food stamps or AFDC is automatically eligible for free meals for their children; however, the completion of the application is still required. Please remember that these subsidies to the lunch program do help keep the prices down for all students.
You can help if you send your application well before the start of the school year. Please send your applications immediately to: Auburn Public Schools, 820 Central Avenue, Ste. #1, Auburn, NE 68305, Attention: Susan Lister.
We welcome your calls if you have any questions. The school breakfast and lunch menus are posted on the website at www.auburnpublicschools.org.
Notice To Parents
Children With Disabilities
Federal and state law requires the school district to provide special education programs to any handicapped student who qualifies for such programs. Therefore, if you believe that your child may be in need of special programs, contact the child's teacher or principal for information. If the child is not of school age, contact Lynn Dierberger, Special Education Coordinator at (402)274-4131.
Immunizations
Nebraska Law requires students entering School District #29 for the first time (Kindergarten, 1st grade, or transfer from outside Nebraska), or students entering 7th grade to have 1 or 2 doses of varicella (chicken pox vaccine), 3 doses of DtaP, DTP, DT or Td vaccine, 3 doses of Polio vaccine, 2 doses of MMR vaccine, and 3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine, to attend school.
All other students must have 3 doses of DtaP, DTP, DT or Td vaccine, 3 doses of Polio vaccine, 2 doses of MMR vaccine, and 3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine to enter school.

Vision Evaluation
Beginning with the 2006-2007 school year, students entering school for the first time, including Kindergarten and transfer students from out of state, will be required to provide proof of a vision evaluation taken within six months prior to the student’s entrance to school.
The visual examination will include tests for amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (misalignment of the eyes), and internal and external eye health, and visual acuity. Parents must submit a form to the school stating the results of the evaluation that has been signed by an optometrist, physician, and assistant or advanced practice registered nurse.
Student Costs and Fees
Students should receive a Schedule of Student Costs and Fees with the mailing you receive from your school. Some fees are subject to a fee waiver for students who qualify for free or reduced lunches. Students who want to waive fees should complete a “Fee Waiver Form,” which can be obtained at any school office. Forms can also be mailed. Please contact the Superintendent’s office at 274-4830 to request a form or ask questions.
School Board Meetings
Regular school board meetings are held the third Monday of each month at Auburn City Hall, 1101 J Street in Auburn. Visitors are welcome to address the Board. The Board President may limit the time allotted to each individual or topic regarding (1) general comments or, (2) agenda comments. Asbestos Information
A certified asbestos inspector as required by AHERA inspects District #29 facilities. An asbestos management plan was developed for our facilities which includes: this notification, education and training for our employees, a set of plans and procedures designed to minimize the disturbance of the asbestos containing materials (ACM), and plans for regular surveillance of the ACM.
A copy of the asbestos management plan is available for your inspection in our administrative offices during regular office hours. Gene Taylor is our Asbestos Program Coordinator and all inquiries regarding the Plan should be directed to him.
We have implemented the asbestos management plan. We are intent on not only complying with, but exceeding federal, state, and local regulations in this area. We plan on taking whatever steps are necessary to insure that your children and our employees have a healthy, safe environment in which to learn to work.
