AHS GUIDANCE NEWSLETTER

Keep this newsletter because each printing contains new scholarship

Selective Service Registration is required by law. Males 18 years of age

must register. You may now register online at: www.sss.gov. 

This is required to be

eligible for any state or federal financial aid.

ACT and SAT Registration Information:  AFTER THE DEADLINE

DATES,A LATE FEE IS CHARGED!! You may now register online

for both tests: ACT – www.actstudent.org or SAT-  www.collegeboard.com.

ACT   TEST DATE: Oct. 27, 2007 Registration deadline: Sept. 21, 2007. 

Next test date will be December 8th with a registration deadline

of November 2, 2007.  We will be a testing site for these tests!

SAT    TEST DATE:November 3, 2007 with a registration deadline of

October 2,2007 The next test date will be December 1, 2007 and the

registration deadline for that test is October 30, 2007.

 

Visitation and Professional Days

 

Education Quest will host an Educational Planning/College Fair

at Auburn High School on Thursday, September 27th.  Juniors, Seniors

and their parents will be allowed time to visit the fair during the afternoon. 

 

Sinclair Hille Architects of Lincoln have put in place a job shadow

program.  If you are interested in this field and would like to participate

in a job shadowing experience, come to the guidance office to register.

Oct 18th/  University of Nebraska at Kearney Oct. 23rd.

 

Women in Information Science and Engineering” (WISE) is for

high school senior girls and their teachers.  The program will be held

at the Pieter Kiewit Institute in Omaha on Friday, Oct. 26 beginning

at 5:00 p.m and ending at 5:30 p.m. on Sat., Oct. 27. This is to give

girls the opportunity to explore a potential interest in computer science,

engineering and/ or technology. Let the guidance office know if you

are interested.  Nominations must be received by Monday, Oct. 1, 2007.

 

Junior and Seniors are invited to UN-K for their Annual Criminal

Justice Conference on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007 in the Student Union

Building. Please come to the guidance office to see the interesting

speakersscheduled! The deadline to register is Friday, Oct. 5, 2007.

 

Wayne State College offers campus visits on most weekdays

9:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m., a day for “Just Juniors” on Nov. 17

and again on March 15, and “FRIDAYS @ WSC” (please check

in the guidance office for those Friday dates).  As always,

December 1, 2007 remains their priority date for admission

application and their primary scholarship deadline.

 

Chadron State College Health Professions Day will be

Wed., Oct. 10, 2007.  If you are interested, please come to the

guidance office for details.

UNK is announcing a new program called the Guard Officer

Leadership Development (GOLD) Program.  This is a unique

way to become a Commissioned Officer in the National Guard.

FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

 

UNK Honors Program applications for the Omaha

World Herald/Kearney Hub Scholarship must be

postmarked by Dec. 1, 2007.  This requires a 28 ACT

minimum and top 10% ranking in your senior class. 

For other scholarship considerations and application for the

Honors Program, completed forms must be postmarked by

Feb. 1, 2008. Criteria for the Honors Program are a 26 ACT

minimum and 25% ranking in your senior class.  If you have

questions, please come to the guidance office.UNK is offering

a new scholarship opportunity for incoming freshmen called the

Health Science Scholarship (HSS) Program. Please come

to the guidance office for further information.

 

AXA Achievement scholarshipwinners are students who

set and reach ambitious goals, demonstrate drive, determination

and ability to succeed in college and have respect for self, family and

community. Apply on line at:  www.axa-achievement.com by

December 15, 2007.

 

RHOP- Rural Health Opportunities Program is available at

Wayne State and Chadron State Colleges.  This scholarship

gains you acceptance in to specific UNMC health programs. 

Deadline for application is December 1, 2007.  For specifics on

RHOP programs and applications please visit the guidance office. 

 

Iowa Western Community CollegeScholarships.  The priority

consideration for FALL  semester applications are due March 15;

SPRING semester due November 15.

 

FastWeb! offers personal scholarship matches at www.fastweb.com. 

A great way to prepare!

 

Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation will have 250 designated scholars,

50 will receive awards of $20,000 and 200 students will receive

$10,000!  A copy of the guideline is in the guidance office and you

may visit their web site www.coca-colascholars.org.

  You must apply online.  The deadline is Oct. 31, 2007.  

 

The Horatio Alger Association Scholarship Programs range in

value from $2,500.00 to $20,000.00.  We recognize students who

have demonstrated integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity,

strength of character, financial need, a good academic record, and a

desire to complete college and contribute to society.  Please see the

poster on the guidance office door.  You will see that you must

submit an online application at www.horatioalger.com/scholarships.

Applications must be completed by Oct. 30, 2007.
