Auburn Middle School Celebrates Blue Ribbon School Designation
AMS receives the national academic award!

Friday, November 16 was a Blue Ribbon Day for Auburn Middle School. All 460 Auburn elementary students and their teachers met on the AMS front lawn to celebrate their selection as one of United States 256 schools that received the award. Community dignitaries extended congratulations to the students and urged them to continue their hard work in the future.
Sharon Pollard, AMS principal, told the students how proud she and the teachers were of them and then presented the Blue Ribbon plague to superintendent of schools, Steve Schneider. John Moon, representing Nebraska Department of Education, also congratulated the students and teachers and praised the school for using a balanced curriculum. Bob Hemmingsen, Board of Education member, expressed his pride in the students for garnering the national award. Bob Engles, mayor of the City of Auburn, also extended congratulations on behalf of the city.
A color guard representing the Auburn Legion presented the United States Stars and Stripes while the audience sang the National Anthem. The Blue Ribbon Flag was then raised below the United States flag and the State of Nebraska flag on the school's flag pole. The Blue Ribbon flag was presented to Ms. Pollard and AMS teacher, Wendy Engles, during a national Blue Ribbon School ceremony in Washington D.C.
All of the K-6 students sung two musical pieces, I'm an Original and Champions. The sixth grade band play American Freedom and the School Fight Song.
The celebration culminated with a reception at Wheeler Inn.
