The Board of Education of School District #29 of Nemaha County met on November 19, 2007 at Brownville City Hall for the purpose of conducting the regular board meeting. Notice of the meeting was duly published in the Auburn Newspapers.
President Mike Zaruba called the meeting to order at 7:14 p.m. The meeting was delayed to obtain the Open Meetings Law poster so it would be on display. Roll call of members present were: Zaruba, Obermeyer, Billesbach, Oestmann and Kernes Krause. Bob Hemmingsen was absent.
Motion by Kernes Krause and second by Obermeyer to approve the consent agenda that includes the minutes of the 10-15-07 regular meeting and minutes of the 10-11-07 Board workshop. Roll call vote: Zaruba (yes), Obermeyer (yes), Billesbach (yes), Oestmann (yes), and Kernes Krause (yes). Motion carried 5-0.
Visitors included: Lynn Dierberger, Bob Engles, Deb Bean, John Lauber, Mary Lauber, Wayne Chase, Marty Hayes, Tony Johnson and the Administrators.
John Lauber thanked the Board for bringing the meeting to Brownville.
Motion by Kernes Krause and second by Oestmann that the Board approve the monthly claims in all funds as presented. Roll call vote: Obermeyer (yes), Billesbach (yes), Oestmann (yes), Kernes Krause (yes), and Zaruba (yes). Motion carried 5-0.
Motion by Kernes Krause and second by Obermeyer that the Board approve the financial reports as presented. Roll call vote: Billesbach (yes), Oestmann (yes), Kernes Krause (yes), Zaruba (yes) and Obermeyer (yes). Motion carried 5-0.
Motion by Kernes Krause and second by Billesbach that the Board accept the Annual Audit as presented. Roll call vote: Oestmann (yes), Kernes Krause (yes), Zaruba (yes), Obermeyer (yes), and Billesbach (yes). Motion carried 5-0.
Motion by Oestmann and second by Obermeyer that the Board approve selling the Locust Grove property to Thomas and Dorothy Rivett at a price of $45,000. Roll call vote: Kernes Krause (yes), Zaruba (yes), Obermeyer (yes), Billesbach (yes), and Oestmann (yes). Motion carried 5-0.
Oestmann discussed building space for Birth-5 Sp. Ed. Program, Property North of Calvert and building space in general.
Motion by Obermeyer and second by Kernes Krause that the Board approve the new High Ability Learner program as presented. Roll call vote: Zaruba (yes), Obermeyer (yes), Billesbach (yes), Oestmann (yes), and Kernes Krause (yes). Motion carried 5-0.
Obermeyer discussed the National Blue Ribbon award celebration with the flag-raising Nov. 16th. The plaque was on display at the meeting. The board commended the staff for their effort in receiving this prestigious award.
Motion by Obermeyer and second by Billesbach that the Board allows District 29 to join a conference with like schools and to pay the conference dues. Roll call vote: Zaruba (yes), Obermeyer (yes), Billesbach (yes), Oestmann (yes), and Kernes Krause (yes). Motion carried 5-0.
There was no Policy, Curriculum & Americanism report. Nancy Fuller addressed the 06-07 State School Report Card and the Board was very pleased with the results.
The written administrative reports were addressed. Thank you notes and upcoming meetings were noted. The next regular board meeting will be at the Auburn City Hall on December 17, 2007.
President Mike Zaruba adjourned the meeting at 7:50 p.m.
The next regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education will be held on December 17, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. Auburn City Hall, 1101 “J” St., Auburn, NE. The agenda for the regular school board meeting shall be kept continuously current and shall be readily available for public inspection at the superintendent’s office during normal business hours. All items on the board agenda are subject to discussion and/or board action. The board may enter closed session regarding any item on the agenda, which is permitted by Nebraska Statute.
