Opportunities for AHS students to earn college credit

December 14, 2007

Auburn High School offers students three different ways to earn college credit while attending high school.  Those are Peru State College Early Entry Program, UNL’s Advanced Scholars, and Advanced Placement Courses.

Auburn High School and Peru State College have been partners for several years in providing college credit for classes taken at AHS.  Students who are juniors or seniors and are taking classes approved by Peru State College may be able to earn credit from PSC.  A list of approved classes is available in the High School Office.  An Early Entry Representative will visit with students in mid to late December to outline the process for earning credit.  More information on the PSC Early Entry Program can be found at: http://www.peru.edu/EarlyEntry/EarlyEntry.htm.

Auburn High School also partners with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Advanced Scholars Program.  This program allows seniors and students identified as high ability learners to take online courses through the University.  Students must apply to be accepted into the program.  More information on the UNL Advanced Scholar’s Program can be found at: http://advancedscholars.unl.edu/step1/

Finally, AHS offers Advanced Placement courses in 2 departments.  Students have the opportunity to take Computer Programming, Calculus, and Statistics.  Student who sit for the Advanced Placement exams in May are eligible to submit those scores to the college of their attendance.  If the student meets the requirements set by the college they will be able to earn credit in that class.  AHS’s long-range plan is to offer at least 2 AP courses in each core area and additional courses in our elective areas.  More information on Advanced Placement Courses can be found at: http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/about.html

In addition to the website listed above you can also talk to the AHS Guidance Counselor for more information.
