Selective Service Registration is required by law. Males 18 years of age must register. You may now register online at: www.sss.gov.  This is required to be eligible for any state or federal financial aid.

 

ACT and SAT Registration Information: After the deadline, a late fee is charged. You may now register online for both tests:

ACT www.actstudent.org or SATwww.collegeboard.com.

 

ACT    TEST DATE: April 12, 2008 REGISTRATION DEADLINE: March 7, 2008

SAT    TEST DATE: March 1,2008 REGISTRATION DEADLINE: February 7, 2008

 

 

FAFSA Information

For 2008-09 paper FAFSAs will not be available in bulk for counselors.  Students will need to order their own copies of the paper FAFSA by calling 1-800-433-3243. Also a new PDF of the form will be available to download from www.FederalStudentAid.ed.gov.  Students are encouraged to use the online method for filing the application.

 

Scholarships

 

Nebraska Roping Horse Association

This is a  $500 Ray Warren/ Tom Forst memorial scholarship requires an application that includes an essay about your interest in agriculture.  The application form is available in the guidance office.  Application deadline is February 28, 2008.

 

Nemaha Valley Street Rods Scholarship

This $250 scholarship requires an application, personal letter, and recommendation.  Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline is March 31, 2008. Turn in your application to the guidance office. 

 

Doanne College invites seniors with a GPA of 3.6 or higher to apply for the Senator Hugh Butler Academic Leadership Award (SHBAL).  This is a full-tuition scholarship.  Please come to the guidance office for an application form.  Deadline is January 31,2008.

 

UNL reminds you students must submit all admission application materials by January 15, 2008 to be eligible for freshman scholarships.

 

U.S. Navy NROTC Scholarship

This is a four-year full tuition scholarship. I

The student will also receive a monthly stipend.

Degree plans are not restricted. Qualifying requirements are ACT/SAT scores of 21 Math and 22 English or 530 Verbal and 520 Math.  Application deadline is Jan. 15,2008.  You may get detailed information at  www.nrotc.navy.mil/ or call Senior Chief Mike Skinner at 715 234-7318.

Alpha Gamma Nu Fraternity at UNL offers a $500 scholarship to freshmen males. The deadline is May 31, 2008.  Application forms are in the guidance office.

Applications must be submitted by February 1, 2008.

 

 

Nebraska City Apple Corps Barbershop Chorus is offering two $250 scholarships to graduating seniors who have participated in vocal music or band all four years of high school.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  The Deadline fis February 8, 2008.  

 

College of Saint Mary’s in Omaha invites you to attend their scholarship competition day on Saturday, February 2, 2008.  You may RSVP at www.csm.edu

 

State of Nebraska Department of Veterans Affairs offers two programs that assist with the cost of tuition.  They can be used alone or in a combination with U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Education Programs.  There is a Waiver of Tuition Program and a Reservist Credit Program.  There are 13 approved Nebraska colleges involved.  Please see the guidance office for further details.

 

 Apply for the Best Buy outstanding community service scholarship  at www.bestbuy.com/scholarships by February 15, 2008.

 

$1500 Monsanto Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship application is online at www.monsanto.com.  The deadline is February 15, 2008.

 

Good Samaritan Society, Auburn Community Scholarship is a $250 scholarship available for seniors planning on studying for a health care occupation.  Applications are in the guidance office and are due by February 13, 2008.

 

NAPM “Excellence in Business”  is for students going into business.  Applications are in the guidance office and are due by March1, 2008.

 

ROTC Navy Scholarships are available for students going into engineering and nursing. Apply on line at www.nrotc.navy.mil

 

Eastern Nebraska Car Council offers a scholarship for students pursuing a career in the automotive industry.  Applications are in the guidance office. The deadline is April 15, 2008.

 

The College of Business Administration at the University of Nebraska at Omaha invites enrolling freshmen to apply for departmental scholarships. Go online to cba.unomaha.edu to get more information.  Application materials are also in the guidance office.

 

Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the year, SAMMY award program honors outstanding scholar athletes. Applications are online at badybymild.com.  The deadline is March 7, 2008.

 

Girl Scouts-Homestead Council will award a $1000 scholarship.  You can download a copy of the application at http://homesteadgsc.org/Forms/index.php. We also have one in the guidance office. The deadline is February 15, 2008.

 

Better Business Bureau Foundation is taking applications for the $2000 Integrity Award. The application is due by February 15, 2008.  For information visit www.bbbnebraska.org.

 

Susan G. Komen scholarship is for students that have lost a parent to breast cancer.  Go online to www.komen.org/grants for details.

 

The Nebraska Department of Education is currently accepting applications for the Robert C. Byrd Scholarship. Apply on line for the $1500 scholarship at www.nde.state.ne.us/byrd.  The deadline is March 15, 2008.

 

National Energy Federal Credit Union will be awarding fifteen $1,000 scholarships. Forms are available at the credit union and online at

 www.ne-fcu.org.

Elk Scholarships include Past Exalted Ruler, J.B. Ferguson, Vocational grant, and Most Valuable Student. Applications for these scholarships are available in the guidance office and online at www.elk.org/enf/scholars.

 

Wayne State offers and Art Department Scholarship for Freshman. A portfolio slide presentation and application are required.  See the guidance department for details.

 

Chet Linder Memorial Scholarship is offered by the Independent Insurance Agents of Nebraska. This a  $750  scholarship.  See the guidance department for details and application. The deadline for application is March 1, 2008.

 

The Davis/Chambers Scholarship is offered by all the Community Colleges in Nebraska.  It provides awards to racial minority students who are Nebraska residents. Recipients are expected to transfer to a four-year college. See the guidance office for an application form.

 

A $2,000 scholarship is available to a high school senior who is a member of a Masonic Youth Organization. See the guidance office for application information.

 

Peru State College offers two outstanding music scholarships for incoming freshman students majoring in music education.  Deadline for application is Friday, March 7, 2008.  See the guidance office for more information or email pforney@oakmail.peru.edu.

 

$500 Gus Swanson Communications Scholarship Program is open to students who intend to study communications at a Nebraska institution. Deadline is March 15,2008.  See the guidance office for an application or go online at: www.sramarketing.com.

 

Nemaha Valley Street Rods Scholarship is awarded to a student that demonstrates high moral character, citizenship, and social awareness as well as sufficient academic achievements. See the guidance office for an application.  Deadline is March 31,2008.

 

Any senior who plans to pursue a career in agriculture please come to the guidance office to complete the Husker Days Agricultural Scholarship application. This is a $600 scholarship.  The deadline is March 25,2008.

UNK invites students interested in music, theatre, and dance to sign up for auditions.  You may go online at www.unk.edu/ or call 308-865-8406 for theatre and 308-865-8618 for music or dance.

 

Iowa Western Community College has an ESL, an education day coming up. Go online to www.iwcc.edu/es/addmissions/programs to find out more.  

 

Southeast Community College invites you to attend one of their Campus Discovery Days. Dates are: Jan. 18, and Febr. 22. Register at www.southeast.edu
