Keep this newsletter because each printing contains new scholarship opportunities.  You may also check it out on the web site: www.auburnpublicschools.org.

Selective Service Registration is required by law. Males 18 years of age must register. You may now register online at: www.sss.gov.  This is required to be eligible for any state or federal financial aid.

ACT and SAT Registration Information: After the deadline, a late fee is charged. You may now register online for both tests:

ACT www.actstudent.org or SATwww.collegeboard.com.

ACT    TEST DATE: April 12, 2008 REGISTRATION DEADLINE: March 7, 2008

SAT    TEST DATE: May 3,2008 REGISTRATION DEADLINE: April 1, 2008

 

FAFSA Information

For 2008-09 paper FAFSAs will not be available in bulk for counselors.  Students will need to order their own copies of the paper FAFSA by calling 1-800-433-3243. Also a new PDF of the form will be available to download from www.FederalStudentAid.ed.gov.  Students are encouraged to use the online method for filing the application.

 

Scholarships

A $2,000 scholarship is available to a high school senior who is a member of a Masonic Youth Organization. See the guidance office for application information.

 

Peru State College offers two outstanding music scholarships for incoming freshman students majoring in music education.  Deadline for application is Friday, March 7, 2008.  See the guidance office for more information or email pforney@oakmail.peru.edu.

 

$500 Gus Swanson Communications Scholarship Program is open to students who intend to study communications at a Nebraska institution. Deadline is March 15,2008.  See the guidance office for an application or go online at: www.sramarketing.com.

 

Nemaha Valley Street Rods Scholarship is awarded to a student that demonstrates high moral character, citizenship, and social awareness as well as sufficient academic achievements. See the guidance office for an application.  Deadline is March 31,2008.

 

Any senior who plans to pursue a career in agriculture please come to the guidance office to complete the Husker Days Agricultural Scholarship application. This is a $600 scholarship.  The deadline is March 25,2008.

 

Iowa State’s Acacia Fraternity offers a leadership scholarship for $1000. Applications are in the guidance office.

 

UNK invites seniors to apply for the Industrial Technology Incoming Freshmen Scholarships. The application is online at www.unk.edu.

 

Nebraska Insurance Federation and the Nebraska Actuaries Club are jointly offering scholarships to seniors interested in Math or Actuarial Science. You may apply online at www.n-a-c.org. The deadline is March 31, 2008.

 

Nebraska Truck Center offers a two year scholarship program for students interested in diesel technology. The application is available in the the guidance office.  The deadline is Febr. 29, 2008.

 

The Great Plains Association for College Admission is offering six $1000 scholarships. For more information and an application go online at http/www.gpacac.net.

 

Phi Delta Kappa Educational Society offers scholarships for students interested in becoming teachers.  Please email jgilsdorf@neb.rr.com for more information.

 

The James M. Cox Foundation Scholarship is a $1000 need based scholarship. Applications are in the guidance office.  The Deadline is March 15, 2008.

Oxbow Scholarship Program is for students interested in working with animal health, nutrition, or the pet industry.  Complete an application online  at www.oxbowhay.com.

 

The Nebraska Legal Professionals Association awards a $1000 scholarship to a senior who wishes to further his or her education in the field of law or legal support.  Applications are in the guidance office. The deadline is March 31,2008.

 

The Carriage House Foundation invites senior who are interested in automotive related study to apply for a $1000 scholarship. Information and application are available in the guidance office.  The deadline is April4, 2008.

 

Special Programs Days and Applications:

If you are interested in attending any special visit days and Midland Lutheran College call 402-942-6501 or go online at www.mlc.edu/admissions.

 

UNK invites students interested in music, theatre, and dance to sign up for auditions.  You may go online at www.unk.edu/ or call 308-865-8406 for theatre and 308-865-8618 for music or dance.

 

UNK eighth annual senior day is scheduled for Monday, February 11, 2008.  You may register online at www.unk.edu.

College of Saint Mary invites seniors interested in the Sciences to participate in the science fair on Saturday, March 8, 2008.  Scholarship money is available to those who participate.  See the guidance office for a registration form.

 

 Iowa Western Community College has an ESL, an education day coming up. Go online to www.iwcc.edu/es/addmissions/programs to find out more.  

 

Southeast Community College invites you to attend one of their Campus Discovery Days. Dates are: Jan. 18, and Febr. 22. Register at www.southeast.edu
