Auburn Wrestling Team Places Third at State

Led by Senior Travis Cole, the Auburn Wrestling Team finished in third place at the Nebraska State Wrestling Tourney. The third place finish matches Auburn’s highest team finish. The 1997 team also finished 3rd.
Auburn finished as the district runner up at the district meet at Crete. They qualified nine wrestlers for the state tourney: Trent Mertes at 103 lbs., Jarod Ketter at 119 lbs., Matt Oliver at 130 lbs., Darian Haynes at 135 lbs., Kiefer Coatney at 140 lbs., Seth Kubik at 145 lbs., Travis Cole at 171 lbs., Brett Vinson at 189 lbs., and Joe Alston at 215 lbs.
At the state meet at the Qwest Center in Omaha, they finished the meet with 5 individual medalists: Travis Cole finished 2nd, Kiefer Coatney finished 3rd, Joe Alston and Matt Oliver finished 4th, and Darian Haynes finished 5th.
