6th Grade Students Present "A Visit From an Ancient Pharaoh"
April 11, 2008
On April 3rd the students of Mr. Willis’s sixth grade class performed a play titled A Visit from an Ancient Pharaoh at the Auburn Middle School auditorium. The play was performed for parents as well as anyone else the students chose to invite. The week prior the class presented the play for the rest of the school.
The project was inspired by a story the class read during Reading class. After reading the story, one student chimed in with, “Can we do a play?” and was echoed with numerous cries of, “Yea!” Mr. Willis’s initial response was an emphatic, “NO!” But, the idea grew on him after some time. A few weeks later work began in earnest.
With very little input from Mr. Willis, everything was done by the students. They brought in all materials to create the props and stage materials. They planned and provided everything needed for costumes. They even planned all of the stage direction.
“It was a tremendous effort by the entire class,” Mr. Willis was overheard saying. He went on to say, “I am very proud of how hard they worked to make this project a success. They memorized lines and worked without complaint on every aspect of the play’s production. Without that type of devotion this project would not have been possible to complete. The end result was a play I think the students were very proud of.”
