Joellen Hamann grew up in Spencer, Iowa. Her favorite thing
about school when she was young was being able to be with her
friends every day. She is a very social person. Mrs. Hamann
attended college at Mt. Marty in Yankton, South Dakota intending to
become a nurse. She didn’t like the clinicals that came along with
nursing so she switched to become a teacher, just like everyone
else in her family is. She holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in English
Education.
Mrs. Hamann graduated from college in 2000 and got her first
teaching job in Yutan, NE. She taught there for five years. Her
first year teaching at Auburn High School was the 2005-2006 school
year. Here at Auburn she teaches Senior and Freshman English and
the AHS News class. Mrs. Hamann is also the sponsor for National
Honor Society and is the head cheerleading coach. She loves
coaching cheerleading and puts tons of her time and effort towards
the squad.
Mrs. Hamann is married to Chris Hamann and they have three kids. Their children are Carter, who is five, Cayden, who is two, and Cammie who was just born March 24, 2008. Her favorite things to do with her children are to play at the playground and read to them. When Mrs. Hamann has free time she enjoys reading, watching CNN, and shopping. She sees herself living in Auburn for the rest of her life.
When asked to give one piece of advice to every student in the school Mrs. Hamann said: “There is a world much bigger than Auburn waiting for you! Enjoy life! Then, you will realize Auburn is where you want to raise your family and you’ll be back.”
