Mr. Walker

April 24, 2008

He attend Holdrege High School and he worked at the local Gas N Shop and Medecine Chest (pharmacy and grocery store). He also participated in 4 years of football, 4 years of basketball, 1 year of track, and 4 years of baseball. Out of all these great sports basketball is his favorite, especially since him and he teammates took the team to state and won. Along with this great memory he also states that one of his favorite memories in high school was meeting his wife. Having a bit of trouble guessing this person is? It’s Mr. Walker out Vice Principal/Athletic Director.

After graduating from high school Mr. Walker attended Kearney State College, now known as UNK. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Education for 7-12 grade history, geography, and social science. Then he furthered his education by earning a Master of Arts in Administration. Mr. Walker says that the best part about his job is “Working with young adults. Helping them and teachers/coaches achieve their goals.

Golfing and spending time with his wife and two daughters is at the top on Mr. Walkers favorite pastimes. Including relaxing at home and watching Grey’s Anatomy, Star Wars and many other popular shows. And the greatest accomplishment of his life is being a responsible and loving father and husband. Along with having a very wonderful family Mr. Walker has a 4-legged addition to the family as well, the family dog.

When asked what he believed other people would describe him as Mr. Walker stated that people would say he was honest and caring. But that's not all he is. In a skit at Silver Lake High School he played Regis Fiburn while a friend played Kathy Lee in a pep rally help for their Volleyball team. Aside from his wild skits Mr. Walker says that is he could trade places with anyone it would be Warren Buffett or Bill Gates. He says that they have the money to change things that he believes need a change but he wouldn’t actually want to be them.

As stated above Mr. Walker loves basket ball and would really enjoy going to the NCAA final four and the big hit would be for it to be held in Washington, D.C. so he could go back for a visit. Maybe on the trip he could listen to his favorite singer Billy Joel.

Finally as the year comes to an end and new freshmen are coming in and seniors are leaving I asked Mr. Walker if he could give any advise to the graduating seniors what would it be. He stated “Enjoy life by remembering the important things like family and friends. Avoid life’s destructive distractions that will take you on a path away from the things that matter most.” Also when asked what he would miss the most about AHS if he were to leave he said he would miss all the hard working students and teachers and staff that he sees each and everyday.
