Meet the Counselor-Kathryn Bucy
by Kathy Bucy
November 02, 2007
Hi! I am Kathy Bucy, the high school and junior high counselor. I have been a counselor with Auburn Public schools for eighteen years. I love counseling and getting to know all the students, and their parents. It certainly is a challenging position because I have many different duties. Talking with kids about careers and decision making, responding to students' individual needs, helping parents, reporting grades, and administering standardized tests are just a few of activities I do often.
I started my career as an elementary teacher and now have teaching experience at the elementary, middle school, junior high, high school, college, and adult levels. I received my bachelor and master degrees from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. In addition, I am a National Certified Counselor and hold two licenses from Nebraska as a Mental Health Practitioner and a Certified Professional Counselor.
My husband Bill and I first moved to this community in 1980 when Bill bought Dr. Reid's dental practice. We have raised three daughters in this community and its schools. Sara, Molly, and Jeanne are now grown and have moved to the big cities of Lincoln and Omaha. However, they come back often to visit the community they love, Auburn.
As most of the students at AHS know, I am an avid animal lover. I always have a story to tell about horses, dogs, or cats. Spending time with my family and being an outdoor enthusiast takes up most of my out-of-school time. When at home, you are most likely to find me riding horses, walking the dog, or cleaning the barn instead of the house. Still, I look forward to coming to school each day because I value the relationships with the great people I meet and work with at AHS.
