2018-19 Budget Details
The 2019-19 budget was approved by the Auburn Public School’s Board of Education on September 10th. The goals of the budget are to recover from the loss of $1,000,000 in state aid the past two years.
“Auburn Public Schools had to cut costs and delay critical needs the past 2 years in order to deal with $1,000,000 loss in state aid. The addition of $600,000 in state aid this year will allow the district to purchase the delayed reading curriculum and teacher laptops. However, the bottom line is that the state aid formula does not adequately account the district’s infrastructure needs. The High School Roof and HVAC systems will need to be replaced in the next 5 years. This expense will be over $2,000,000. Schools the size of Auburn are negatively impacted by the current formula. It accounts for basic education only. If assessed values rise, then state aid is cut. When assessed values hold steady or drop, funding is restored. This coupled with the $1.05 levy caps make it impossible to provide an acceptable level of education for our student AND save money for major infrastructure projects.
