Wonders Reading- We have a new series this year! Wonders offers MANY components of reading in order to make every instructional minute count.  During each reading story we will have weekly spelling and high frequency words (I will post these on dojo), vocabulary words, phonics practice, comprehension with stories, retelling skills, and MUCH more!  After each pre-test, students and I write our learning targets for the week on our focus wall.  Please ask them about this!  The spelling and reading test date will be posted on our class DOJO page or stated on the home-school connection sheet (Tests won’t always be on Friday’s).

Zaner-Bloser Handwriting– This year we will be working on Zaner-Bloser Handwriting! The goal of ZB is to teach students to write legibly. Students will learn to write letters, words, and sentences that are legible to both writers and readers. By learning and applying the four Keys to Legibility (shape, size, spacing and slant) students will evaluate their writing and discover techniques to help them improve and refine their writing skills.

Writing– Writing is tied in with our reading series and will focus on the Six Traits of Writing: ideas, voice, sentence fluency, word choice, organization, and conventions.

Math-EnVision math is a technology based, interactive math program that guides students through 20 topics throughout the year.  Each lesson has specific objectives, daily spiral review, problem of the day, quick check, guided practice, independent practice, problem solving, and vocabulary words.  Throughout the topics we will work on addition, subtraction, ordering numbers, geometry, patterns, money, measurement, time, graphs, and MUCH more!

Technology- Students will be using iPads to listen to stories, take AR quizzes, and practice various skills.  They will also be visiting the computer lab as time allows.  In the computer lab students will be learning about and practicing the computer lab rules.  Students will also be learning about computer safety and practicing logging on and off the computer.  Students will also be taught using Mimio, a projector, teacher laptop, teacher iPad, and Document camera.

DOJO– In your back to school information from me, you received a dojo code for your child.  Class Dojo is used as the primary form of communication throughout the school year.
