My name is Erin Teten, and I am a fourth grade teacher at Calvert Elementary School! This will be my first year teaching in Auburn, and I could not be more excited to become a Bulldog! Let me tell you a little bit about myself! I grew up in Papillion, Nebraska and have spent the last four years teaching fourth grade at Parkview Heights Elementary School, in the Papillion La Vista Community Schools District. I am a Doane College (now Doane University) graduate- Go Tigers!- and am a double major in K-8 Elementary Education and K-12 Special Education.
Last summer I married my best friend, Nate Teten, who is a farmer near Auburn. Together we have one dog named Ellie, who is a German Shorthaired Pointer and is a little ball of fire! The three of us really enjoy summer days of fishing, boating, and spending time with our families and friends. We are also expecting our first baby (a boy!!) coming early November.
Aside from teaching, another of my passions throughout my life has been Track and Field, in which I participated at the high school, collegiate, and national level. I was the Co-Head Coach of the Papillion La Vista South Lady Titans, and will continue coaching Track and Field for the Bulldogs this Spring. I hope to instill a similar passion in my own student-athletes someday.
Recently, I finished my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction through Doane, so I have tons of fresh ideas to bring to the school year!
It’s going to be a great one!

Fourth Grade Happenings…
Reading- Each week during reading we have weekly spelling words (posted on Dojo page), vocabulary words, fluency practice, comprehension with stories, retelling skills, and MUCH more! Each week after the pre-test, students and I write each learning target for the week on our learning target board. Ask them about this! The spelling test and reading test will always be on a Friday unless otherwise stated.
Cursive Handwriting- This year we will be working on cursive handwriting once a week! The goal of cursive handwriting is to teach students to write letters and words in cursive. Students will learn to write letters, words, and sentences that are legible to both writers and readers. By learning and applying the four Keys to Legibility (shape, size, spacing and slant) students will evaluate their writing and discover techniques to help them improve and refine their writing skills.
6-Trait Writing- This year all grades are focusing on 6 Traits of writing. Writing will happen every day and students will write in a variety of ways that touch on several different topic areas. Students will have the flexibility to choose to write about what matters to them. This will hopefully inspire life long writers.
Math- EnVision math is a technology based, interactive math program that guides students through 20 topics throughout the year. Each lesson has specific objectives, daily spiral review, quick check, guided practice, independent practice, problem solving, and vocabulary words. Throughout the topics we will work on numeration, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ordering numbers, geometry, patterns, money, measurement, time, graphs, and MUCH more.
Science/Health- The Nebraska Science standards will be taught in Mrs. Teten’s classroom to all fourth grade students three days a week. Mrs. Teten will be using interactive power points, investigations, experiments, videos, and more to engage students in science education.
Social Studies- The Nebraska Social Studies standards will be taught in Mr. Shaffer’s classroom to all fourth grade students three days a week.
Technology- Students will be using iPads and laptops daily in the classroom. Students will use iPads to take AR quizzes, complete Xtra Math, work on Khan Academy, and practice various skills. All fourth grade students will also be in Mrs. Wenzl’s classroom for technology instruction three days a week.
