Parent Letter 4.21.2020

April 21, 2020

Dear Families,

We appreciate your ongoing support and cooperation while our school buildings have been closed as a result of COVID 19. This has been a period of adjustment for the district and our families. Together we will continue to do what is best for our students. It’s the Bulldog Way.

Many students have engaged in lessons distributed by teachers either online or through mailed packets. We’re proud that students are continuing their education despite obstacles they may have encountered along the way. We are also grateful for the commitment of families to ensure learning happens in your homes.

The district has established the last day of school for seniors and all other students. Seniors’ last day of online learning will be May 1, 2020. All other students’ last day of school will be May 14, 2020. Teachers will use the week of May 11-14 to touch base with students before the end of the school year and to share resources for summer learning opportunities for students and families.

The Board of Education passed a COVID 19 Emergency Resolution at the April 13, 2020 Board meeting. A portion of the emergency resolution addresses grading for the remainder of the school year. Calvert Elementary students will not receive grades for the fourth quarter. Auburn Middle and High School students will switch to a pass and fail system for the second semester. Incomplete assignments for the third-quarter will be waived. Student transcripts will note that students received passing grades for classes as opposed to traditional A-F letter grades for the second semester. The class rank for seniors will be based on first-semester grades. Fourth-quarter report cards will not be mailed to families. Click here for the COVID 19 Emergency Resolution Grading Policy.

At this time, we are continuing to work on plans to bring students back into buildings to get their supplies as well as drop off items that belong to the district. We are working with the Southeast District Health Department to make certain we are following all Directed Health Measure guidelines.

Yours in education,

Dr. Virginia Moon

Superintendent, Auburn Public Schools
